Role Overview

As a Scala Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining our backend services. You will work closely with our product and engineering teams to build robust, scalable, and high-performance applications. This is a hands-on role that requires strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of functional programming concepts.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Scala
• Work with functional programming paradigms and frameworks like Cats, ZIO, and Akka
• Build and optimize APIs and microservices for performance and scalability
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver seamless user experiences
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices
• Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, Cassandra, or MongoDB
• Implement event-driven architectures and work with streaming technologies like Kafka
• Ensure code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines
• Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, identifying bottlenecks and improving efficiency

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of Scala development experience (or strong experience in Java with a willingness to transition to Scala)
• Familiarity with functional programming concepts (monads, immutability, higher-order functions, etc.)
• Experience with Scala frameworks such as Play, Akka, ZIO, or Cats
• Knowledge of distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Have

• Experience with Big Data technologies like Spark or Flink
• Background in DevOps, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
• Interest in Machine Learning, AI, or Data Engineering
