Automation Engineer

Role Overview

The Infrastructure Automation Engineer will design, implement, and optimise an automation‑driven orchestration platform supporting multiple environments (DEV, UAT, PROD). The role focuses on platform‑level automation, environment provisioning, IAM integration, performance tuning, and the creation of reusable automation components and connectors. The consultant will ensure the platform is secure, scalable, observable, and aligned with the organisation’s DevOps and infrastructure governance models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure‑level Architecture Definition Define the final low‑level architecture for the orchestration platform, ensuring it is technology‑agnostic and aligned with infrastructure automation principles. Provide cost/benefit analysis for architectural decisions.

  • Environment Provisioning & Segregation Deliver a fully operational orchestration platform with segregated DEV, UAT, and PROD environments, including automated provisioning and configuration.

  • IAM & Security Integration Integrate the platform with IAM following security best practices, enforcing least privilege, role‑based access, and secure authentication flows.

  • Reusable Automation Components Build reusable connectors, modules, and automation assets to support workflow execution and integration with infrastructure and provider platforms.

  • Monitoring, Observability & Logging Implement monitoring and observability using platform capabilities, ensuring visibility into system health, performance, and workflow execution.

  • Provider Platform Integration Support integration with external provider platforms, ensuring secure, reliable, and automated communication between systems.

  • Lifecycle Automation & DevOps Alignment Implement mechanisms for full process lifecycle management, integrated with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and the organisation’s DevOps operating model.

  • Standardised Error Handling Deliver a consistent, automated error‑handling framework for orchestrated processes and infrastructure workflows.

  • Platform Performance Tuning Optimise the orchestration platform for performance, scalability, and reliability.

  • Documentation & Enablement Produce clear documentation for developers and operations teams covering platform usage, automation patterns, Camunda, and custom connectors.
