Senior Cloud Engineer – Python / AWS
About the Role
Our client is a Houston-based energy marketing and trading company that builds and operates technology platforms supporting pre-trade decision-making, market data, pricing, and analytics for its trading desks.
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join the team as a senior individual contributor. This engineer will be responsible for designing, building, deploying, and operating cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven services, with a primary focus on Python and AWS.
The role combines hands-on software engineering with cloud architecture, automation, production support, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the full development lifecycle while also helping establish engineering standards, drive architectural decisions, and mentor other engineers.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven services
• Build primarily in Python to ingest, process, validate, and expose market data for pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows
• Design and implement scalable solutions using AWS serverless services, containers, ECS/EKS, and event-driven architectures
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Implement and maintain application observability, monitoring, logging, and security
• Provide hands-on production support, troubleshooting, and operational improvements
• Lead technical design and architecture reviews
• Help define and enforce engineering standards, development practices, and architectural patterns
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
• Collaborate closely with traders, quantitative teams, product owners, architects, data teams, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams
• Support Azure integrations for select enterprise and cross-platform use cases

What We're Looking For

• Senior-level experience building and operating cloud-native applications
• Strong hands-on Python development experience
• Deep experience with AWS cloud technologies
• Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems
• Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation
• Experience with CI/CD, production operations, observability, and cloud security
• Ability to contribute to architecture and technical design decisions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, trading, quantitative, and business teams
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship while remaining hands-on
