About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Expert in Powertrain Controls and Embedded Systems to support the development of next-generation propulsion technologies in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

This role is ideal for a recognized technical specialist who thrives in early-phase product development and enjoys combining hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will play a key role in shaping advanced control strategies, influencing system architectures, mentoring engineers, and driving robust solutions from concept through verification and calibration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of advanced model-based control systems for spark-ignited combustion engines.
• Define and decompose system requirements into implementable software and control solutions.
• Develop control concepts, algorithms, and functions covering the complete development lifecycle.
• Drive ECU function development, integration, verification, and calibration activities.
• Lead technical decision-making across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
• Support system engineering activities and ensure alignment across software, controls, and calibration teams.
• Perform analysis, testing, validation, and troubleshooting using SIL, HIL, and engine test-bench environments.
• Contribute to automation initiatives including software development, testing, calibration, and engineering workflows.
• Mentor colleagues, share expertise, and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, including AI-enabled engineering approaches.

Required Qualifications

• MSc, PhD, or equivalent expertise in:

  • Control Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Applied Physics
  • Automotive or Powertrain Engineering

• 12+ years of relevant experience in:

  • Automotive product development
  • Powertrain systems
  • Embedded software development
  • Engine controls

• Proven expertise in:

  • Model-Based Development (MBD)
  • Spark-Ignited Engine Control Systems
  • Combustion Control
  • Air Path Control
  • Torque Modelling
  • Knock Detection & Knock Control
  • ECU Function Development

• Strong background in:

  • AUTOSAR Classic
  • Embedded Software Architecture
  • Diagnostics & Communication Protocols
  • Software Integration
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262)
  • Cybersecurity (SAE 21434)

• Experience with:

  • SIL, HIL and engine testing
  • Verification & Validation
  • Calibration and automated calibration workflows
  • Data analysis and technical documentation

• Advanced knowledge of:

  • MATLAB/Simulink
  • Python
  • ATI Vision and/or AVL Concerto

• Experience with one or more of:

  • ETAS INCA
  • ETAS ASCMO
  • TargetLink
  • Embedded C/C++

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

• Hydrogen or natural gas engine development
• Heavy-duty engine applications
• Physics-informed AI/ML
